Description: Correspondence, diaries, orders, certificates, obituaries, photos, and other personal papers of New Haven, CT, area soldiers, chiefly relating to camp conditions, battles, and regimental activities, including correspondence of Major Eli Walter Osborn (1835-1865) pertaining to his duties with the New Haven Grays (part of 2nd Infantry Regiment, Connecticut Volunteers) during the 1st Battle of Bull Run and his subsequent transfer to the 15th Volunteer Regiment; and of John Harpin Riggs (1841-1926), of Seymour, CT, documenting daily events and family affairs. Also includes regimental records containing orders, muster rolls, reports, ordnance records, and other materials, of various Connecticut units, including the 13th, 15th, and 27th volunteer regiments and the New Haven Grays; records of organizations such as Admiral Foote Post No. 17, Grand Army of the Republic, and New Haven Home Guard; correspondence, minutes, newsletters, manual, and financial records of Connecticut and New Haven Civil War Centennial committees (1961-1962); scrapbooks of clippings and correspondence; and miscellany containing proclamations, congressional bills, and materials relating to a soldiers monument in New Haven.
