The New Haven Museum (NHM) is dedicated to providing and developing high-quality tours and programs for school groups. In order to extend the learning experience beyond the museum visit, we have developed pre- and post-visit activities for teachers to use in conjunction with a trip to the New Haven Museum or an outreach program. The activities correspond to the Common Core Standards and the 2009 Social Studies Framework.
In addition, each set of activities comes with a brief background on the topic so that teachers may easily adapt the information and materials.
Pre-Visit Activities
To prepare students for their visit to the museum, these activities are designed to communicate the significance of different aspects of the history of New Haven. These activities establish the foundation of the ideas that will be brought up during the program at NHM or in your classroom.
Post-Visit Activities
To follow up the NHM visit , students will be given the opportunity to use the information they learned during the program at the Museum for maximum retention.
