NHM offers Self-Guided Visits, Guided Tours and Slide Lectures for adult group visitors. Groups may choose one type of program or combine two for a more complete experience. 

SELF-GUIDED VISITS TO NHM

Adult groups are welcome to schedule a visit to explore the museum galleries on their own.  A museum staff person will greet your group upon arrival and provide an orientation.

Self-Guided Visits are available Tuesday - Friday from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

GUIDED TOURS AT NHM

The following tours are available at the New Haven Museum.  All programs are available Tuesday - Friday from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM.  Program may also be scheduled on limited Mondays, Saturdays and evenings.

Tours range from 45 - 60 minutes in length and can accommodate groups of up to 25.  Larger groups will need to schedule more than one tour.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
General Museum Tour This tour introduces visitors to New Haven's rich history and spends time in each of the primary exhibition galleries.
New Haven Illustrated Gallery Tour Travel through New Haven history from first settlement in 1638 through the early 20th century.

Gallery Tour

This tour tells the story of the Amistad using maps, artifacts and documents to describe the events and individuals.
New Haven's Maritime Heritage Gallery Tour Ship paintings, portraits, models, maps and artifacts highlight the trades and industries that are a part of New Haven's exciting maritime history.
Special Exhibition Tours Tours are available for our changing exhibitions.  Please call to find out about current offerings.

SLIDE LECTURES

Slide lectures are 60 minutes in length.  Lectures at NHM can accomodate groups of up to 90 people.

NHM staff are available to bring slide lectures to your site.  NHM will bring the projection equipment.  It is the responsibility of the site to provide a screen or blank wall in a suitable room.

The Amistad Incident Trace the events of the Amistad voyage, the issues at stake in the court trials and the African''s return home.
New Haven's Maritime History Trace the role that New Haven''s harbor has played and see how local, national and international events shaped the maritime trades.
The Voyage of the Neptune Follow the 1790s voyage of the Neptune from New Haven to Canton, China.  Diary excerpts, maps and images describe the journey.

The Blizzard of 1888

Relive the devastating blizzard that buried the Northeast beneath feet of snow.

The Quinnipiac Indians Explore the culture of the first settlers in the area of New Haven, and how their culture changed after European contact.

OUTREACH VISITS

Outreach visits are also available.  NHM staff will bring a slide lecture to your site. These visits are available Tuesday - Friday from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM.  Program may also be scheduled on limited Mondays, Saturdays and evenings.
